BADMAN Vegeta Cosplay

For Fanime 2013 - our old timey group of friends went with a group cosplay of Vegeta, in pink badman shirt, from DBZ.

 There were six of us in total, though we never actually got a group picture all together @_@

It's paper!

Well, let's backtrack a little.  Friend E found the 3D model file for a small papercraft Vegeta.  He bought Pepakura, the papercraft software, and scaled up just the hair portion of the model, fit for the circumference of his head.

But of course we did it wrong at first and ended up with a small version. Trial size!

Anyway, the software is awesome and prints tabs and numbers for easy assembly.  To make things even easier, Sak set up the Silhouette to cut and score the pieces for us, so all we had to do was glue it together. (We used Tacky glue, smeared on in a thin layer with toothpicks)

 We mailed our LA crew their pieces, and everyone glued and painted their own hair.

For painting, I did not take any pictures, but Sak sprayed on 2 coats of clear spray to protect the paper from saturation.  He used two different brands that both worked - Rustoleum Matte spray and Krylon Polyurathane clear spray.  After that dried, he sprayed on 2 coats of this amazing product called Plasti Dip (in black).  It's pretty much liquid rubber, so it gave the hair this awesome rubbery texture.  We didn't spray the inside of the hair, but that would have made it even stronger I'm guessing!  (Sak would like to remind anyone using sprayable Plasti Dip - please use a respirator or very good ventilation! The chemicals are very strong, and no one wants to breath liquid rubber into their lungs!)

Anyway, that's how we ended up with awesome hair.

We all found yellow pants in various places (good thing colored pants are in style now!) - Ross, Forever 21, H&M.  The pink shirts were a bit harder, and actually at least 3 of the shirts I dyed in a bucket at home (Penga-Sis'. Sak's, and Friend E's).

Lastly, the BADMAN is a printed ironon which I then cut with the Silhouette.

I loved this cosplay so much!! My only regret is that we did not take enough pictures, or move around the con together enough since half of us were working at Artist Alley. :( Also, my widow's peak dug into my forehead and gave me a mini bruise. Just me though. Must be my large forehead. :P

Anyway, I foresee much more papercraft cosplay in our future! Badman Vegeta was a great start!
