I've had the same wall clock in my room for the past four years. Though there's nothing wrong with the little Target timepiece, I felt like it was time to switch it up a bit. See, I never even hung the thing up since moving in:
At first I thought I'd do something to match our comforter, but as Penga-Mom pointed out, we might change our blankets in the future and then be stuck with a mismatched clock.
So instead I chose simply to go with something "happy-to-look-at first thing any given weekday morning".
Starting with a canvas I had laying around, I blocked off some square shapes with painter tape.
Then I painted them in with cheap acrylics. It took several coats, and there was a little bleeding involved since apparently I don't know how to lay proper painter's tape.
I will save you the days and days of drying time and skip to the finished painting:
And I shall name my little piece: "It's hip to be square". Huu huu huuuuu. Can you name all my nerdy square references? (Answers at the bottom.)
Next I dismantled a wall clock I bought from Daiso for $1.50.
I poked a hole (reinforced with tape) in the canvas and stuck the clock in, taping the device into the backside of the frame.
Huzzah! She lives!
I thought about painting the second hand so it would match, but didn't want to risk upsetting the weight balance or anything. A clock's no good if it doesn't work.
I may still paint in some hour markers to the "face" of the clock since it seems I cannot tell time without them. Boo.
Anyway, I really like my new clock, even if it isn't as crisp and clean as the MS Paint mock-up I did beforehand. Who knew an actual paint brush doesn't work the same as the paint bucket tool? Hehe.
Squares from top to bottom, left to right: Tetris block, Mario item box, Portal companion cube, part of a sudoku square (with our anniversary and the answer to the universe inside!), Domo's head, an IC, a Lego block, a power outlet/surprised face, and a Minesweeper flag.
What other things are square? You have no idea how much time I spent brainstorming.
AWESOME clock!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Especially the Mario question mark block. You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteI love this clock! I love it when the little engineer in you gets creative like this!
ReplyDeletethis is so cute and creative. definitely a happy thing to look at.
ReplyDeleteYou're. Amazing. Can you give away one of these deals instead? :oP WOW~!
ReplyDeleteThat clock is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that! It looks AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteWow, very cool. Lol, I thought the power outlet was Kirby and the IC was a magic rug.
ReplyDeleteIf you have some extra wood, you might want to frame/prop the back where the clock is. Probably one to the bottom and right. It'll help with keeping time correct and preserving your great art work.
I love it!!!! How fun! I love all the references!!
